Humankind’s Greatest Artwork…
December 9, 2019
This week, a magnificent piece of “art” was sold for big money. Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan put his time-taking masterpiece (a banana taped to a wall) for sale at Art Basel, Miami. This work was sold for $120k! You read that right (I didn’t accidentally add an extra zero). Cattelan claimed the banana was a symbol of “global trade.” If that rip-off seemed absurd already, another person bought a second edition of the art for the same price. A third was now sold for a steeper price of $150k. The people who bought these had money to burn …or were going bananas!

Oh my goodness! Even though I believe art can be found in anything, what do you do when the banana rots?! 120k down the drain, I suppose…
wow, a banana and tape which is simple is worth 120k wow
there was news that this guy was eating the banana at art basel but they changed the banana every few days
Love this, Marcos! Hopefully this will inspire the artist in all of us!!!!!!!!
epic
this is one of the many reasons why the art community is never taken serially ._.
*seriously
Another guy sold a pineapple for 200k so uhhhh yeah
I wonder if the point of this was to be absurd? If that were true then maybe the value of the materials isn’t as important as the price tag. Maybe the motivation behind it was to get people to say “Oh my god! $120,000 for a banana?!” And then for someone to actually buy that banana taped to a wall… It’s almost like a performance piece and the themes are indulgence and outrage.
This is the best thing ever!!!
