The Truth About Sharks

Are sharks really that dangerous? If you really think about it not all sharks are dangerous, most sharks don’t want anything to do with humans. Have you thought about the fact that you are going into their home? We do live in Miami, where there are quite a few sharks, so shouldn’t we know which ones are dangerous and how to fight back. 

  • Nurse Sharks

Nurse Sharks can be found in the Eastern Pacific and Atlantic Oceans as well as warm tropical waters. Usually around coral or rocky reefs, and grass patches. This is because they are bottom living sharks, they are usually found in groups of 2 to 40 sharks in warm waters. A nurse shark’s diet consists of eating sea urchins, conch shells, octopus, crabs, clams, and shrimp.

Nurse Sharks are not known to attack humans unless they feel threatened. They do, however, have one of the most powerful jaws because they bite through conch shells, Clam shells , Crab shells, and so much more. The largest one ever found was around 13 feet, but most of the time they are no more than 9 feet. You might want to admire them from afar.

Great Hammerhead Sharks are usually found In the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, and Mediterranean Sea. They usually hangout in waters from 20 feet to 4 feet, they also usually travel in schools. They eat stuff around the sea floor such as octopus, squid, stingray, etc. Hammerheads are not known to be dangerous to humans but Great Hammerheads could be dangerous because of their size. Even though there have only been a few attacks recorded.

  • Bull Shark

Bull sharks can be found in the East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico, even though most sharks can’t survive in freshwater a bull shark can. Some have been found in the Mississippi and Amazon River. Bull Sharks eat mostly fish, but also eat turtles, birds, marine mammals, and even other sharks. Some have even been recorded to eat other Bull Sharks, adult Bull Sharks hunt alone. Bull Sharks are one of the most dangerous sharks to humans, because of their aggression, and their tendencies to travel up rivers. Even though there are few attacks towards humans though.

  • Tiger Sharks

Tiger Sharks are found in most tropical temperate waters, with the exception of the Mediteranean Sea. Tiger Sharks diets include crabs, shellfish, lobsters, squid, bony fish, small sharks, skates, rays, porpoises, turtles, marine birds and mammals. Although sharks rarely bite humans, the tiger shark is reported to be responsible for a large share of fatal shark-bite incidents, and is considered one of the most dangerous shark species.


Now that you know a bit about the types of sharks, what would you do if one actually attacked you. Sharks have three soft spots: 1 their gills, 2 their nose, 3 their eyes. So if a shark ever attacks you strike them in one of these 3 spots. Now that you know more about sharks you can have a more relaxing trip to the beach without woring.
